October Book Club

October 5, 2010

Another delightful evening with charming company, book club is brilliant!  We reviewed the Summer Reading List and here goes…

Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel 7.5/10

Certainly a challenging yet rewarding read, although for me it felt more like studying than reading…must brush up on my history!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson 5.5/10

Yikes, this was surprisingly graphic, too many explicit descriptions of violence for my liking (had to skip those pages lest the images stick in my mind!).  The Millenium Trilogy is surrounded by a lot of publicity and I can see the draw to this kind of blockbuster thriller but not my cup of tea.

The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows 7.5/10

Ooooh…this is lovely!  One to share and pass on to friends and family.  Such a charming book and the characters and story were comforting, funny and sad…a lovely glimpse into the lives of very endearing characters.  A really special book, thank you for writing it and sharing it.

Next on the reading list is…Through the Narrow Gate by Kate Armstrong and Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.  Look out the reviews in November.
